A straw hat is a fashion accessory worn to protect the head from heatstroke and the UV rays of the sun. It is a hat with a brim woven out of straw or any other form of plant fiber. Straw hats are usually hand woven and softened by submerging them in hot water or steam. Straw hats are worn by both men and women.
There are many types of straw hats for men like the cowboy hat, Fedora hat, Panama hat, Pork pie hat and the Nuts and Bolts Guatemalan palm leaf straw hat. The wider the brim of the hat the better protection it provides from the sun. Hats are sprayed with DoPont Teflon to give the straw some extra protection. A detachable chincord is attached to the hat that can be fitted under the chin on windy days and left behind your head on sunny days. Natural straw hats often have a leather band with a bow or satin ribbon for a decorative look. A hat incorporated with metallic threading gives a little shimmer to a straw hat, and will look perfect when worn at the poolside or the beach. Another very iconic hat is a hand woven hat with a white wide leather brim that is enhanced with curves that allow the leather to drape elegantly. Hats come in different sizes, but the hatband can loosened or tightened to change the size of the hat by about two sizes. Straw hats are usually in black, brown and beige color but bright colorful hats are also quite common.
